Stl:Happy Hour Anyone?

Happy hump day my friends.  Anybody that knows me, knows that I’m into happy hour.  In my NYC days, happy hour was a sport for me and many of friends and colleagues.  It was on me to find the coolest spots for happy hour and I had a pretty simple formula.  The said place had to have reduced price drinks, a little food (either cheap or free), the music had to be on point, and the spot had to be cool.

The Partnership for Downtown St. Louis has started happy hour every Wednesday at just about all the spots downtown ;-) .  In it’s third week, to our delight (yours and mine), happy hour is from 5-7pm and offers $2 beers, $3 wines, $4 specialty drinks, and 1/2 price appetizers at dozens of cool spots.  This is super cool in my book.  If you’re a serial dater, need to take meetings, without blowing your budget, got kids? or just simply need a mid-week break?  Downtown for happy hour just might be for you.  This is also an excellent way to increase foot traffic for businesses in the downtown area.  Do check out the flyer because many of my favorite spots are offering this happy hour deal.  For more information do visit: www.downtownstl.org.

New Music: Ledisi Pieces of Me

Today is the day that I’ve been waiting for! Ledisi’s new cd: Pieces of Me hits the stores!  I’m a huge fan of Ledisi.  I even cringe when the press says she just came on the scene in 2007 (that’s a whole nother story).  4 time Grammy Nominated, Ledisi brings it.  She sangs (can’t be touched in my book) and deserves every accolade known to artists.  While I’ve only heard the title track, and it’s very her, I know that I will be pleased.  This post is just tell you guys that the cd has dropped and you need to go ahead and cop that ;-) .

Check where Ledisi will be performing at www.ledisi.com and you can hear some samples of the new cd at www.amazon.com or www.itunes.com

NY:Get Off:Meshell Ndegeocello Covers Prince

Happy Tuesday guys! Had big fun at Lola’s last night.  Darius Bradford brings the funny each and every Monday.   If you haven’t checked him out, do come by.  Your week will be started with a blast!

I love me some Meshell Ndegeocello, I remember when she first came out and she had me at hello with “if that’s your boyfriend, he wasn’t last night.”   I’ve seen her many a times in NY and DC.  Once, I was about 7 months pregnant and me and a good girlfriend of mine, Sabrina Smith, had to see her (esp me).  We ended up standing for most of the show (you think I cared).  If I was in NY, I’d be making my way to see Ms. Ndegeocello tomorrow.

In honor of the 30th Anniversary of The Blue Note Jazz Club, The Blue Note has scheduled many top name acts like Chaka Khan, Nancy Wilson, Bobby McFerrin, and Meshell Ndegeocello for concerts throughout NYC.  Ndegeocello, is doing a full set of Prince covers.  Meshell is a writer, producer, singer, and a bass player.  And I would love to hear and see her play an all Prince set.  Expect, her to put her spin on what you thought you knew already.  Her show is going down tomorrow at The Highline Ball Room.  The Highline is located in Chelsea at 431 West 16th Street, New York, NY, 10011 b/t 9th and 10th Avenues.  Price point for tickets is $25 in advance and $30 at the door.  Just checked and the show is sold out.  If I were you though, I would show up and try to get a ticket/seat.  The Highline is cool like that, if there’s room, you’re in ;-) .  For more information on the entire festival do visit www.thebluenotejazzfestival.com and www.highlineballroom.com

Stl: The Music of MJ @ Powell Hall

Happy Tuesday lovelies!  Did we enjoy the long weekend?  I sure did.  The weather is very summer like in St. Louis and I can’t wait for the Summer to unfold.

Who’s better than Michael Jackson?  The St. Louis Symphony will dedicate their June 11, 2011 show to the music of Michael Jackson.  While I haven’t been in Symphony Hall since grade school (we’re talking many many years ago),  this is one night that I wouldn’t mind checking it out again.  You can expect many musical tributes in Michael Jackson’s memory and I hope to catch as many as I can.  Micheal was certainly the epitome of coolness and left us far too soon.  Price point for the concert is between $37-$80. Powell Symphony Hall is located in Grand Center at 718 N. Grand Ave, St. Louis, MO 63103.  For more information and to purchase tickets visit www.stlsymphony.org.

Durkee Grill Creations

Happy Memorial Day All!  Where would we be without our brave soldiers who many make the ultimate sacrafice so that America can pursue it’s ideals and goals?  Today and always India’s World salutes the soldiers and their families.

Memorial Day is like the kick off to the Summer.  I’ve discovered some seasonings that really work well for seasoning your meat for the bbq.  Durkee Grill Creations are awesome.  They flavor chicken and fish and meats wonderfully.  Case in point, I had to bbq like 20 lbs of chicken wings yesterday and I didn’t start too early.  I seasoned the meat a few hours prior to grilling time.  I used the Chicken Seasoning, the Mesquite Seasoning, and the Garlic and Herb Seasonings with a little vinegar to marinate and the results were great.  I caught a sale on the seasonings when they were 10 for $10 at Schnuck’s. They were certainly a bargain and well worth the money spent.  I only wish the bottles were a little bigger they range in size at about 3 oz or so.  For more information on the seasonings do visit www.durkee.com.  I would visit your local grocery store for the full line.
