The Brand New Heavies

While I was a little whipper snapper at HU (Howard University for those who don’t know), I loved the BRAND NEW HEAVIES. They were turning out a brand of funk/neo-soul before it hit the masses. Never Stop, Brother Sister and several of there other songs were very inspirational to me. Then, the band went through a number of lead singers and my attention was everywherelse musically. The coolest thing is that they are back and they look and sound great. The lead singer from 1990-95 and back since ‘05, is N’Dea Davenport (I wonder if that’s pronounced like India). Some of you are very lucky b/c they are dropping a new double cd on October 20th and they are touring!!! They will be hitting up NY, Chi-Town, Philly, Boston, and Alexandria VA (DC). They will also be touring the UK after the US tour. Do visit: www.thebrandnewheavies.net. Check the flyer above for dates, venues and tickets. Enjoy!!!!

Hey guys and gals! Hope your Tuesday is going swimmingly. I’m feeling a bit mischievious at the moment. But, I’m quite certain that I will settle down today! As I mentioned before I’m checking out London’s Fashion Week. It surprised me how many designer names that I don’t know. But, it’s cool, because I always figure out who’s who and what’s what. All I can say is that the clothes, designers, and the like are quite edgy. A lot that they have done, would never fly in NY, or at least it hasn’t yet. One knit designer, Mark Fast, wanted to prove that girls with a little junk in their trunk can sport his knitwear. Several of the models were a US size of 8-10 (they think this is huge). Two of his top assistants walked out 2 days before the show for “creative differences (supposedly the bigger models were beautiful but could not walk).” And as far as diversity on the runways go: NEXT. There were very few models of color (ie African-American). I mean so few, that I can name them all on one hand (which I found just deplorable) and Milan was worse. Anywho, check out a few looks. Check out the edginess (the last pic is over the top)! Enjoy! Happy Shopping!
