NYE Fun

South Beach

Chicago

St. Louis

DC

New Year’s Eve is upon us.  2009 is in the rear view mirror. So, what’s the play tomorrow night? I’m feeling a little low key today.  But, by tomorrow, I could very well be in gear. And if I was hitting it, I’d probably be at Exo in The Lou, Love in DC,  The Shrine in Chicago, and definitely at Bed in Miami.  My young boo (I have a little crush), Fabolous, will be rocking out.  I don’t know guys, but, NYE is a great night to get it in.  Let me know what’s going on in your town.  And by all means have fun, be safe, and I’m going to check ya’ll out in 2010.  Love ya!!! Enjoy!!!!

TGIF Everyone! Hope your week flew by.  I’m glad the weekend is here.  Today’s my youngest son’s 7th birthday (Happy Birthday Issa)!  So there will be some celebrating today and tomorrow.  If you are in New York, Chicago, St. Louis, or Miami and looking for something to do, well here you go:

Miami:

  • NY Rapper Fabolous is hitting the stage at the Gansevoort South Beach tonight.
  • Happy Hour tonight at The Raleigh Hotel (www.raleighhotel.com).

Chicago:

New York:

  • Spike Lee’s Birthday Party for MJ tomorrow in Prospect Park

St. Louis:

Happy Hour @ The Raleigh ~ MIA

The Raleigh

The Raleigh

One of my favorite times to go out is happy hour.  I like happy hour because you can do it a few times a week if you want without breaking the bank, you can make it home in good time for the kiddies, and also you can see a couple of sights (sights=cute guys) if you’re lucky.  The Raleigh sounds like my type of place.  Having drinks on the beach or at the pool is the coolest.  If I were in Miami, I’d definitely check The Raleigh.  More information can be found:  www.raleighhotel.com

11 Things To Do in South Beach

South_Beach.jpg South Beach image by DongonKing

South Beach is fun place to hang out, people watch, check out some cute shops, drink, and of course enjoy the beach.  A group of folks from HU (Howard University for those of you not in the know) are kicking it down there this weekend.  I thought I’d put together some cool things to check out for them to do outside of their line up.  Because, if  anybody is like me, I always like to veer off to do a little of my own thing.  One of the reasons I like South Beach is that you can take a dip at the beach or at your hotel, have a drink, shop, and eat all in just about walking distance.  I would concentrate on Washington, Collins, Lincoln Road, and Ocean Drive (you’ll find more than you need to do).  I also consulted a couple of my friends who have lived and frequent South Beach. So, here it is, a list of things to do in South Beach:

  • breakfast at Puerto Sagua ~ 700 Collins Avenue
  • sushi/thai food at Maiko ~ 1255 Washington Avenue (try for a window seat)
  • Pizza Rustico (good gourmet pizza) ~ 863 & 1447 Washington
  • Shopping at Loehman’s (Miami has some of the best Loehman’s in the country) ~ 3201 N Miami Ave (20 minutes away)
  • Ocean Drive has shops ( Zara, Armani Exchange, (cheap chic)
  • Mango Tropical Cafe ~ non-stop entertainment~I like the energy of this place. ~ 900 Ocean Drive www.mangotropicalcafe.com
  • Joe’s Stone Crab (crabs & key lime pie) ~ 11 Washington Avenue www.joesstonecrab.com
  • Gelateria Parmalat (best gelato in town) ~ 670 Lincoln Road
  • Bal Harbor  Shops ~ Luxe shopping (Sak’s, Gucci, Tiffany etc) ~ I’d say about 20 min or so from SoBe
  • happy hour at The Raleigh Hotel (Friday) 10pm- 1am (2 for 1 drink specials)
  • Club Haru & Y ~ to get your clubbin on~they play latin & hip hop on Thursday & Fridays| Saturday is a wrap party for BFF (they play latin, hip hop & open format: house whatever).  Cover is $75-$100.  But you can call Jenny before 6pm (for nightly admission) to get on the list @ 305-403-7850 or email her at rsvp@karu-y.com. www.karu-y.com.

Headed to Miami?

If you are headed to Miami with Bison Round Up (the online home of Howard University), or on your own accord, I’m working on a few things for you to check out while you’re there.  If you’re anything like me and my girls, we would be trying to get our drink, shop, eat and fun on!!!  And since it’s oh so hot, I’d have my sundresses, sunglasses, and flip flops ready to go.  Pictured above are some simple sundresses that you can find anywhere from Target to Macy’s.  I have on a black one today just like the last pic at the bottom that I got from Target for less than $20.  Check back later as I have some cool places to shop, eat, and just hang out.  Travel Safe and Enjoy!!!!

Cool Lodging

So, you and your girls are the coolest, or perhaps you’re a metrosexual?  You love living fabolously and can’t dream of staying at a Holiday Inn or Marriott?  That’s where cool lodging comes in.  Miami is choc full of cool lodging.  A place where usually all the pretty people hang out.  Decor and attitudes are as high as the thread count  in the lush sheets.  Flat screens and other amenities are way above average.  Guess what?  The Standard Hotel in Miami is offering rooms starting at $125 Sunday-Thursday and 20% off spa treatments, which you can enjoy on your private patio.  I see this as a perfectly good deal especially when it’s cold as —- in the Midwest.  This deal is good thru 2.11.09.  Visit www.standardhotels.com/miami/  to make it happen.  Also check out the other Standard Hotels in Hollywood, Downtown LA, and New York.  And trust, pretty is in the eye of the beholder.
